Farm Stand and Pick-Your-Own Staff

We are seeking staff for our farm stands in Dracut, Tewksbury, and Westford. These are seasonal positions, and we are seeking people who:

  • Are friendly and engaging with customers and have excellent customer service ability
  • Are passionate about local food and sustainable agriculture
  • Have a working knowledge of fruits and vegetables.
  • Are motivated, energetic, positive, outgoing, and flexible.
  • Are available from June through October. 
  • Are available 20-40 hours per week, 4-6 days per week, mid-morning through late afternoon / early evening.
  • Willing to work long and varied hours.
  • Have a current drivers license and are willing to drive a small box truck a plus
  • Can lift 50 pounds repeatedly and stand for long periods of time
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, and enjoy working independently and in a team
  • Past experience in retail and/or agriculture a plus.

The successful candidate may perform the following duties, depending on shifts assigned:

  • Arrive promptly to check inventory and load produce and market materials onto truck
  • Drive to market, farm stand, or CSA pick up; unload truck, and set up.
  • Create an attractive display and displaying produce and signage on tables at farm stands
  • Breaking down display at the end of the shift and loading all items back onto truck.
  • Greeting and assisting farm stand customers
  • Answer customer questions about growing practices, recipes, etc
  • Perform sales quickly and correctly
  • Maintain weekly records and inventories
  • Occasional meetings at the farm
  • Other duties as assigned.

Field / Harvest Crew Members

We are seeking seasonal field crew members for the 2016 season.

Position schedule:  Part-time and full-time positions available (20-60 hours per week). Depending on the time of year and the volume of work to be done, start times will be between 6am, 7am, or 8am. End times are typically noon for part-time, and 4pm for full time. Workdays are longer in the summer, and shorter in the spring and fall.

Position start date:  Positions available starting in April, May, June or July, depending on work volume.

Position end date:  Positions end as early as September or as late as December, depending on work volume, business needs, and job performance.

Position may include any kind of farm field work, including:

  • Weeding by hand or with tools
  • Harvesting produce
  • Transplanting seedlings into the field
  • Field preparation
  • Field clean up
  • Irrigation work
  • Some washing produce
  • Other duties as assigned

Important Skills for this position:

  • Interest in sustainable farming practices
  • Farming experience is a plus but not necessary for the right person
  • Willing to work in all weather
  • Works quickly and efficiently
  • Desire to learn to work more quickly and efficiently
  • Good communication skills, including good listening skills, and some English and Spanish.
  • Communicates with other crew members what needs to be done
  • Enjoys working with others ore alone as required
  • Detail oriented
  • Cleans up their workspace when task is completed
  • Capable of doing tedious and sometimes strenuous work for several hours at a time
  • Able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly
  • A positive attitude

Packing Area Assistants

Packing Area Assistants

Position schedule: 25-40 hours per week, depending on the time of year and the volume of work to be completed. Morning and afternoon/early evening positions available.

Position start date: May, June or July 2016

Position end date: Positions may end in early October 2016, with the possibility of continuing into early December based on business needs and job performance.

Position may include any kind of farm field work, including:

  • Washing produce
  • Grading produce
  • Packing produce
  • Reading records, counting produce
  • Keeping work area clean / cleaning up workspace when task is completed
  • Loading trucks
  • Other duties as assigned

Required skills/experience for this position:

  • Willing to work in all weather and temperature conditions (inside cold refrigerator or summer heat)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Enjoys working alone or with others as required.
  • Capable of doing tedious and sometimes strenuous work for several hours at a time.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly
  • Spanish speaking ability not needed, but helpful

Volunteer Opportunities

Interested in getting volunteering with the CSA and getting a CSA share?

We are looking to fill volunteer CSA distribution positions for the 2016 CSA season at the following pick-up locations:

  • East Somerville – Wednesdays from 1:30 – 4:30pm

Individuals will help out with all aspects of CSA distribution on a specific location’s pick-up day and time.

CSA Distribution responsibilities include:

  • Setting up and/or breaking down the distribution area at the CSA distribution site
  • Setting up check-in table, chairs, and other equipment as needed
  • Unloading produce and boxed shares off truck and counting shares
  • Displaying produce and signage on tables
  • Loading empty crates onto truck
  • Storing returned, empty crates after CSA distribution
  • Putting away table, chairs, and consolidating unclaimed shares to be donated
  • Greeting CSA members, sharing information regarding “What’s in your Share” this week
  • Maintaining weekly records
  • Receiving and recording payments (minimal)
  • Occasional meetings

Qualifications:

  • Ability to maintain good communication with the farm
  • Ability to lift 30lbs easily and frequently. Ability to lift 50 pounds or more is a plus.
  • Good organizational skills
  • A friendly, open personality and willingness to engage with CSA members
  • Dependable and reliable

What do I get?

Volunteers will receive a  “regular”-sized vegetable share and fruit share from our CSA.
