Farm Stand and Farmers Market Team Member

Farmer Dave’s is looking for hardworking, fast moving, organized, veggie loving  individuals to work at our Farm Stands and Famers Markets.   Your job is to create and ensure a “Farmer Dave’s” approved customer experience as well as performing the daily needed operational tasks of a Farm Stand and/or Farmers Market.

Locations: 

  • Brox Farm Stand – Dracut, MA
  • East Street Farm – Tewksbury, MA

We are a 100 acre diversified vegetable and fruit farm in Dracut, including satellite fields, greenhouses and an orchard in Tewksbury and Westford, Ma.  We offer our produce through our 3 farm stands, our CSA (which has grown to over 1200 members and serves fourteen communities in the Greater Boston area), several farmers markets, and limited wholesale markets and restaurants.  Although we are a small farm, a “go big, or go home” attitude will serve you well.  We are not certified organic, but use organic methods. If you have a “duck on water” work ethic, enjoy the challenge of many moving pieces, and geek out a bit about feeding people only the most nutritious vegetables and fruits, as well as building sales through a great experience , you may be just who we are looking for. Farm Stand and Farmers Market team members may be responsible for the following:

  • Daily set up and closing of the stand or market, ringing up sales, making and maintaining displays, stocking, grading and packing produce for sale, helping with the wash and prep of vegetables, and other tasks as needed
  • Keeping the displays, farm stand and/or market full, clean and inviting
  • Maintaining the exterior of the farm stand, seasonal flowers, the herb and flower gardens watered and in neat order
  • Keeping the stock rooms/coolers orderly and clean.
  • Working together with other team members to prioritize tasks, set up promotions, execute signage changes as needed, produce and baked goods rotation
  • Partnering with the Retail Operations Manager as it relates to inventory management and sales reporting.

Schedule:

The Farm Stand and Farmers Market Team Members are seasonal part time hourly positions. Part time is a minimum of 3 shifts weekly to a max of 40 hours (May 1st –December 15th) that the farm stands are open and the markets are running.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in customer service and a sincere enjoyment of working with customers, our neighbors and members
  • Good communications and time management skills
  • Valid drivers’ license
  • Ability to lift 50lbs repeatedly
  • Friendly, helpful demeanor
  • An interest in local and organic food
  • Ability to work well in a team atmosphere
  • Experience with Apple products (iPad and square) and money handling a plus

Food Production Team Member  (Kitchen Preparation, Production & Basic Baking)

The Food Production team member is a full-time position.

Position Requirements:

  • At least two years working experience in a restaurant, food prep or commercial kitchen environment.
  • Firm understanding of a large variety of ingredients; spices, herbs, produce & bakery products.
  • Solid knife skills and working knowledge of a diverse set of equipment including: mandolins, hand presses, electric mixers, convection ovens, dehydrators, heat sealers etc.
  • Experience with basic inventory control and organization.
  • Employee must be ServSafe certified; we will train and educate the right individual.
  • Extremely clean and tidy standards; understands food allergen precautions; understands sanitary requirements for a professional kitchen workspace.
  • Follows directions and production lists. Able to self-manage production with little oversight.
  • Eager to learn and work in an evolving production environment with seasonally shifting needs.
  • Pastry and baking experience a huge plus!
  • Creative and enthusiastic with a sense of humor! This is a wonderful place to work!

Position Responsibilities

This position will work closely with the Manager to develop and record best-practices and trial runs on food products for our sales outlets. We have a unique opportunity for the right candidate to pursue from-scratch food production with a large variety of product provided by our farm. Employee will pursue work in our new satellite kitchen facility working on high end equipment.

  • From-scratch food production
  • Temperature and timing control and logging
  • Inventory and production logging
  • Packaging, sealing and labeling of food products
  • Assisting Manager with development of new food products to reduce waste
  • Assisting Manager with basic food inventory and order preparation
  • Receive, organize and stock incoming orders
  • Daily set up and breakdown of work station; this position will also clean and wash regularly
  • Occasionally assist incoming featured chefs with field dinners and on site small-scale catering

Volunteer Opportunities

Interested in getting volunteering with the CSA and getting a CSA share?

We are looking to fill volunteer CSA distribution positions for the 2017 CSA season at the following pick-up locations:

  • Check back soon for locations and times!

Individuals will help out with all aspects of CSA distribution on a specific location’s pick-up day and time.

CSA Distribution responsibilities include:

  • Setting up and/or breaking down the distribution area at the CSA distribution site
  • Setting up check-in table, chairs, and other equipment as needed
  • Unloading produce and boxed shares off truck and counting shares
  • Displaying produce and signage on tables
  • Loading empty crates onto truck
  • Storing returned, empty crates after CSA distribution
  • Putting away table, chairs, and consolidating unclaimed shares to be donated
  • Greeting CSA members, sharing information regarding “What’s in your Share” this week
  • Maintaining weekly records
  • Receiving and recording payments (minimal)
  • Occasional meetings

Qualifications:

  • Ability to maintain good communication with the farm
  • Ability to lift 30lbs easily and frequently. Ability to lift 50 pounds or more is a plus.
  • Good organizational skills
  • A friendly, open personality and willingness to engage with CSA members
  • Dependable and reliable

What do I get?

Volunteers will receive a  “regular”-sized vegetable share and fruit share from our CSA.
