Sustainability at Farmer Dave’s

At Farmer Dave’s, we believe caring for the land is just as important as growing great food. That’s why we’ve invested in sustainable technologies and conservation practices that help reduce our environmental impact while supporting a healthy, productive farm.

Our Dracut Farm Stand and packing facility are heated and cooled using geothermal energy, and four solar arrays provide clean electricity for our farm buildings. We’ve also transitioned much of our delivery fleet to electric vehicles, helping reduce emissions as we bring fresh, local food to our community.

Throughout the farm, we’re always looking for ways to use resources wisely. Energy-efficient radiant heating helps warm our greenhouse crops, while water from our geothermal system is captured in a cistern for irrigation. Drip irrigation and soil moisture monitoring systems allow us to deliver water precisely where and when it’s needed, conserving water while growing healthy crops.

These investments are part of our ongoing commitment to building a resilient farm that will continue providing fresh, local food for generations to come.

Food Access Initiatives

Providing fresh, healthy food to all members of our community is one of the most important parts of our mission. Every season, we work with local organizations to help ensure more people have access to nutritious, locally grown produce.

Through the Massachusetts Emergency Food Assistance Program (MEFAP), we grow and supply fresh produce year-round for the Greater Boston Food Bank. We also donate excess produce and unclaimed CSA shares to approximately a dozen local food access partners and regularly work with Boston Area Gleaners to harvest crops that might otherwise go unpicked.

Throughout the year, we host free produce distributions at our Dracut farm to help support local families. We also accept SNAP/HIP benefits at all of our Massachusetts farm stands, farmers markets, and for our CSA program, making it easier for more people to enjoy fresh, locally grown food.

Strong communities are built around good food. We’re proud to partner with organizations across the region to help make healthy, local produce available to as many people as possible.

Making Fresh Food More Accessible for Our Community

Farmer Dave’s proudly accepts SNAP, HIP, WIC Coupons, and EBT, helping ensure fresh, local food is available to everyone.
